Hitachi Rail delivered an advanced electrical and mechanical system for Vietnam’s first urban railway. The 19.7-kilometer-long line features elevated and underground tracks, connecting Ben Thanh Station with Suoi Tien Terminal.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funded the project to address traffic issues and modernize Vietnam’s public transport network. It aims to provide faster commuting options, reduce travel times, and promote sustainable urban development.

Innovative Solutions from Hitachi Rail Boost Efficiency

Hitachi Rail equipped the system with 17 modern train sets, totaling 51 cars, to streamline operations. The company also installed communications-based train control (CBTC) and wireless telecommunications, enhancing safety and connectivity.

Additional features include platform screen doors, overhead wiring, automated fare collection, and rail yard facilities to support maintenance and operations. These upgrades position the railway as a model for modern transit systems.

Recently, Hitachi implemented digital signaling and telecommunications technologies for Türkiye’s high-speed rail. Enhancements to routes between Ankara-Istanbul and Ankara-Sivas increased efficiency and expanded connectivity across the region.
