Sourcing for High Speed Rail Materials
The CHSRA board has signed off on numerous contracts to procure track, overhead systems and other elements essential to operations. “This slated procurement will result in not only the faster assembly of high-speed track, but it allows us to realize cost savings for the state by procuring direct from American suppliers,” stated CHSRA CEO Ian Choudri.
Meanwhile, a 150-acre southern railhead in Kern County will serve as the main staging and distribution platform. The materials site will be strategically located to support the delivery and placement of material on the 119-mile alignment.
Funding and Staged Implementation
The state funded, $507 million budget backs the first half of the construction, linking Madera to Poplar Avenue. But the next segments could mix federal and state money, and have enough financial wriggle room to continue the expansion.
On top of that, component lead times are six to twelve months. As such, notices to proceed are to be given in tranches, to keep the supply chain flowing and to ensure a steady march to operational serviceability.
