Hamburg has secured a $188 million loan from the European Investment Bank to finance 41 advanced DT6 metro trains, reinforcing its commitment to modern and automated urban mobility. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The agreement was signed by EIB Vice-President Nicola Beer and Hochbahn CEO Robert Henrich, alongside Hamburg’s Transport Senator Anjes Tjarks. Henrich highlighted that this is Hochbahn’s largest investment to date and praised the swift deal process.

Hamburg invests in next-generation DT6 trains
The DT6 series introduces semi-automated and fully autonomous models to the Hamburg network. DT6-F units will include on-board staff, while DT6-A trains will operate without personnel. From 2028, these trains will strengthen existing services and power the new U5 line with 90-second intervals.
