Modernizing the Hamburg–Berlin Rail Corridor

The ambitious plan includes replacing 180 kilometres of track and 200 switches to optimize performance. Six new transfer points will be added, allowing passenger trains to overtake freight trains efficiently. These upgrades promise a smoother and more reliable timetable for travelers.

Digital and Station Upgrades for the Hamburg–Berlin Rail Corridor

Sections near Hamburg and Berlin will feature the European Train Control System (ETCS), enhancing operational efficiency and capacity. Additionally, 28 stations will receive improvements such as better accessibility, modern facilities, and enhanced wayfinding systems.

Enhanced Connectivity and Long-Term Benefits

The route will benefit from gigabit-capable mobile networks supported by new masts, enabling faster communication systems for passengers and operators. After completion, the Hamburg–Berlin Rail Corridor will offer five years without major construction, ensuring stability and efficiency.

This project aligns with DB’s Strong Rail strategy and Germany’s transport policies, promoting sustainable rail travel. Upon completion, passengers will enjoy modernized, reliable, and eco-friendly journeys.
