Greenbrier Europe tests GB25RS bogies with an axle load of 25 tons
13.03.2025
The American company Greenbrier Europe has started testing GB25RS bogies on BOX E06A flatcars. The testing is taking place in Poland and Germany. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Purpose of Greenbrier Europe’s tests
Sensors are installed on the cars to monitor parameters such as motion, loading, speed, and temperature. The collected data is sent to the Greenbrier Europe factory in Świdnica, Poland, for analysis.

The main goal of the tests is to assess the wear of GB25RS bogie wheelsets compared to Y25 bogies. The latter are widely used in Europe and have an axle load of 22.5 tons.
Technical features of Greenbrier Europe’s bogies
The previous stage of testing for the GB25RS was conducted in Austria from 2019 to 2022. During this phase, the bogies were installed on Sggrrs platforms, and the maximum speed reached 100 km/h.
The current bogies are equipped with radially adjustable wheelsets to ensure optimal curve negotiation. This reduces rail wear and improves transport efficiency.
The introduction of bogies with increased axle loads helps to increase the carrying capacity of cars. This reduces transportation costs and boosts the competitiveness of railway transport.
