These two sites have production areas of 225,000 m² and 93,000 m², respectively. Greenbrier believes that consolidating operations will improve logistics and product quality control.

Despite the Arad plant shutdown, Greenbrier Europe does not plan to reduce its presence in Romania. On the contrary, the company aims to strengthen its position by modernizing its active production sites.

Greenbrier Europe’s History and Strategy

In 2017, Greenbrier acquired a 75% stake in AstraRail Industries for €60 million, equivalent to approximately $64 million at the current exchange rate. This acquisition was a key step in establishing Greenbrier Europe.

The new division included not only Romanian facilities but also plants in Turkey and Poland. The company’s headquarters is located in Świdnica, Poland.

Today, Greenbrier Europe offers innovative solutions in freight wagon production, maintenance services, and leasing options.

The Arad plant, founded in 1854, produced more than 250,000 freight wagons delivered to 35 countries. However, changing market dynamics require new strategic approaches.

Greenbrier Europe is now focusing on modernization and sustainable growth, even as it closes a historic production site. The manufacturing strategy is shifting toward more modern and cost-efficient facilities.
