Great Western Railway Upgrades Fleet with Coradia 1000

Angel Trains, a leasing company, owns these diesel trains used previously in Wales. The operator phased them out there before 2023, and now GWR takes over.

GWR will launch the first trains in Devon and Cornwall by late 2025. The remaining units will enter service by 2026, focusing on Exeter-to-Penzance routes.

Additionally, the trains will operate on lines to Barnstaple and Okehampton with flexible configurations. Operators can arrange them into four-, five-, or six-car sets as needed.

For maintenance, GWR will upgrade the Laira depot in Plymouth, a key port city. The company will also train staff to handle servicing and repairs efficiently.

Great Western Railway Boosts Regional Connectivity

This rollout enhances connectivity in southwest England, boosting regional transport options significantly. Moreover, it supports the operator’s goal to modernize its fleet and ensure smoother operations.

Travelers can expect improved journeys, and the trains will meet growing demand effectively. FirstGroup continues to innovate, so passengers benefit from reliable and modern rail services.

The Coradia 1000 series offers durability, and its design suits varied route requirements well. Consequently, the operator strengthens its network, delivering better performance across Devon and Cornwall.

FirstGroup’s investment reflects confidence in rail travel’s future across the United Kingdom. Thus, the company prepares for expansion while prioritizing sustainability and customer satisfaction.

By 2026, the operator will fully integrate these trains, transforming regional travel significantly. The company commits to excellence, and this project underscores its forward-thinking strategy.

Southwest England gains a transport boost, and the operator leads the way in rail upgrades. Ultimately, this initiative promises efficiency, comfort, and reliability for years to come.
