This change allows seamless travel from Niagara Falls to Hamilton and onward to Toronto. Riders will now benefit from faster journeys and more schedule options across the region.
Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria confirmed that GO train frequency between Hamilton and Niagara Falls will quadruple. This increase gives daily commuters and weekend travelers more flexibility and reduced wait times.
GO Station Upgrade Enhances Regional Transit Integration
The newly upgraded track also improves connectivity to Hamilton Street Railway bus services. It ensures smoother transfers and more efficient multi-modal travel for both local residents and visitors.
According to Metrolinx interim CEO Michael Lindsay, every Niagara-bound train will now include a stop at West Harbour GO Station. This provides consistent access to key locations throughout the year.
Metrolinx will update the Lakeshore West line schedule after final safety checks. The improved route will streamline operations while supporting long-term transit expansion goals.
Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, noted that local commuters could save over an hour per week. He emphasized that the GO Station upgrade lays the groundwork for future service expansions, including the Grimsby GO Station.
This project supports Ontario’s larger plan to develop faster, more reliable public transit and stimulate economic growth throughout southern Ontario.
