Gazpromtrans announces the complication of international railway logistics
06.04.2022
One of the largest railway operators in the Russian Federation, Gazpromtrans LLC, notes a violation of railway logistics amid the war that Russia is waging in Ukraine and international sanctions against the aggressor country.
Prior to the start of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, about 40% of the company’s shipments were made in international traffic, at least 70% of which passed through the territory of Ukraine and the Baltic countries, reports Railway Supply magazine citing the CFTS.
“At the moment, due to recent events and the geopolitical situation, the logistics chain for the delivery of goods to foreign consumers in Hungary, Moldova, Romania and other adjacent territories has been severely affected,” the Vesti Gazpromtrans corporate newspaper says.
Since transportation through the territory of Ukraine is now impossible, all the wagons that were supposed to be sent to / through our country were stopped en route.
In this regard, Gazpromtrans is coordinating the redirection of wagons along the route.
In connection with redirection and downtime along the route, there are risks of revising the railway tariff, increasing the turnover of cars along the route and under unloading due to changes in transportation directions (reorientation to eastern directions), limited capacity of port stations, non-acceptance of empty cars for transportation by foreign railroads.
All this will ultimately affect the return and shortage of rolling stock.
The total fleet of railcars managed by the company exceeds 30 000 units. Gazpromtrans is 100% owned by Gazprom.
