The American Steam Railroad and Cincinnati Scenic Railway announced a June fundraiser to support the restoration of Reading Company 4-8-4 No. 2100 during a special excursion event. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Fifty premium tickets for the Spirit of Urbana excursion on June 14 will raise funds for the locomotive’s restoration and are available via the American Steam Railroad’s website.

Passengers will enjoy a scenic 100-mile round-trip from Washington Court House to Urbana, with a two-hour layover. The route runs along historic lines formerly owned by Erie, New York Central, and Detroit Toledo & Ironton.
Each ticket includes automatic entry into a raffle offering first-class upgrades and cab ride experiences. Demand is expected to be high due to the limited number of tickets and unique prizes.
Restoration Progress for Iconic Reading 2100
Earlier this year, Reading 2100 was successfully fired up for the first time in decades after undergoing a complex mechanical rebuild. This milestone brought the locomotive one step closer to active mainline operation.
Organizers revealed that the locomotive will be painted in the American Freedom Train livery, honoring its sister engine No. 2101, which toured the country during the Bicentennial.
Excursion Offers Unique Way to Support Restoration
This collaboration gives train enthusiasts a rare opportunity to ride vintage rail while contributing to a historic rail preservation cause. It combines the excitement of rail travel with community-backed infrastructure renewal.
By participating in the excursion, supporters directly fund a significant heritage rail project and experience the magic of steam railroading through Ohio’s scenic landscapes.
