FreightCar America Produces Its 10,000th Railcar at Mexican Plant
28.06.2024
American company FreightCar America (FCA), based in Chicago, has produced its 10,000th railcar at its plant in Castaños, Coahuila, Mexico, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This milestone, achieved on June 25, 2024, marks a significant achievement for the facility, whose construction began in 2020 and was completed in 2022.
The Castaños plant, spanning approximately 16 acres, began operations with three production lines. In 2023, a fourth line was commissioned, significantly increasing production capacity.
Currently, the plant employs 2,000 workers, making it one of the largest employers in the region.
The plant’s production capabilities are impressive: all four lines can produce more than 5,000 railcars annually.
The introduction of a fifth line, planned for the near future, will increase production capacity by approximately 20%.
The plant’s geographic location, close to the U.S. state of Texas, is strategically important, ensuring quick delivery of necessary production materials and access to a skilled workforce.
FreightCar America adheres to advanced standards in its operations. A key element of the company’s success is the vertical integration of production and continuous cost optimization. This allows FCA to remain competitive in the market and continuously improve its technological processes.
The success story of the Castaños plant continues the company’s tradition of achievements. In the third quarter of 2022, FCA already announced a record number of railcars produced, indicating stable growth and development, as the company strives to continually improve the quality and efficiency of its products.
Thus, the achievement of producing the 10,000th railcar at the Mexican plant not only highlights the company’s success but also demonstrates its ability to adapt to modern challenges and maintain its leading position in the industry.
