First Hyundai tram to debut in Warsaw
On Tuesday, December 14, the first tram of the Korean company was launched. The tram left the number 17.
Tramwaje Warszawskie signed a contract with Hyundai Rotem in June 2019 for 123 trams with an option for another 90 units. The cost exceeds 1.8 billion zlotys. In June – July, the first two Korean trams arrived in Poland.
Although the trams were produced in South Korea, many of the components and elements are supplied by Polish companies.
A total of 123 trams will be delivered to Warsaw under the basic order. The contractor will provide 85 two-sided trams and 18 one-sided trams, approximately 33 meters long, as well as 20 shorter one-way trams up to 24 meters long.
Upon delivery, low-floor trams will make up about 70% of Warsaw rolling stock. There is also an option to supply another 90 trams (45 two-sided and 45 one-sided, 33 m long), the purchase of which depends on the availability of funds from Warsaw.
