Final Phase of Upgrades on Anwarganj-Kasganj Railway Line for High-Speed Travel
01.04.2025
The Anwarganj-Kasganj railway line is undergoing vital upgrades to accommodate higher-speed trains. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

These improvements, including straightening curves and modernizing crossings, are designed to boost travel efficiency and safety.

Upon completion, the upgraded infrastructure will enhance connectivity between Kanpur, Delhi, and Uttarakhand, offering potential for premium services like Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains.
Track Improvements on Anwarganj-Kasganj Railway Line
Railway officials from the Izzatnagar division are actively working on enhancing the track infrastructure between Anwarganj, Bilhaur, Kannauj, and Farrukhabad. The final phase of track upgrades is addressing issues like sharp curves and bottlenecks to allow for faster operations. Currently, the focus is on achieving speeds of 110 km/h, with future plans to reach 160 km/h, comparable to the Delhi-Howrah route.
Survey Identifies Obstacles to High-Speed Operations
A detailed survey conducted two years ago identified key obstacles such as sharp curves and inefficient crossings that limit train speeds. To resolve these issues, railway authorities have implemented significant changes, including track realignments and the closure of crossings for repairs. This marks a major step towards optimizing the route for higher-speed trains.
Due to dense population and numerous railway crossings, train speeds on the stretch between Anwarganj and Mandhana are limited to 30-40 km/h.
To address this, the Railway Ministry has approved a significant investment of approximately $120 million for the construction of an elevated track. This elevated track will streamline operations, eliminate speed restrictions, and accommodate future double-line expansion.
By the end of April, the foundation stone for a new station, named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be laid. The elevated track project will be completed by the end of 2027, significantly reducing travel time across the region.
The upgraded railway network will also improve connectivity to Delhi and Uttarakhand. Planned improvements include the introduction of a new railway line between Aligarh and Kasganj, along with upgraded routes to Bareilly and Uttarakhand. These enhancements will facilitate high-speed train services, offering faster connections to Delhi.
A proposed Sleeper Vande Bharat Express, connecting Prayagraj or Kanpur Central to Kathgodam, will benefit from these upgrades. North Eastern Railway’s PRO, Rajendra Singh, confirmed that track strengthening efforts are already underway, with visible improvements expected soon.
