€40 million for the reconstruction of the railway infrastructure in Moldova will be provided by the European Union and the European Investment Bank, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Draft Code of Railway Transport was adopted in Moldova

The funds, totaling €53.2 million, will be allocated for the renovation of the Velcineț-Oknița-Bălți-Ungheni-Chișinău-Căinari railway corridor, covering a total distance of 446 km.

A significant portion, 128 km, is currently in unsatisfactory condition, posing risks to railway traffic.

The Moldovan government approved negotiations for a financial agreement with the European Investment Bank on December 13, involving a €41.2 million loan, EIB investments, and a €12 million grant from the EU.

Additionally, Moldova has ratified an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the reconstruction of the railway.
