Dubai is on track to expand its metro network as part of the emirate’s economic strategy, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

By 2040, the number of metro stations is set to increase to 140, more than doubling the current 55 stations (35 on the Red line and 20 on the Green line).

Additionally, there is currently a tram line with 11 stops in operation.
Plans include increasing the number of stations to 96 by 2030, covering an area of 140 km².
By 2040, the area around metro stations is expected to expand to 228 km².
This ambitious project aims to ensure that stations are within a 20-minute reach for city residents, significantly boosting public transport usage.
A key part of this expansion is the construction of the Blue metro line, a project costing AED 18 billion (approximately USD 4.9 billion).
Scheduled to begin in 2024, the new line will stretch 30 km, including 15.5 km underground and 14.5 km above ground. It will feature 14 stations, including three interchange stations with the Red and Green lines.
The Blue line is expected to commence operations by 2029.
This project not only enhances Dubai’s transport infrastructure but also marks a significant step in realizing the emirate’s long-term development strategy aimed at improving quality of life and fostering sustainable economic growth.
