Dubai Blue Line Metro Construction Officially Begins
16.06.2025
The Dubai Blue Line project officially launched with a groundbreaking ceremony led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The new line will stretch 30 kilometers and include 14 seashell-themed stations. Three stations will serve as interchanges and incorporate interior designs based on seven thematic concepts—heritage, earth, air, fire, water, Expo, and Emaar.

Importantly, this marks the first Dubai Metro line to cross Dubai Creek, using a 1,300-meter-long elevated viaduct. The route aims to increase transit access and capacity for residents across rapidly growing districts.
Two Major Routes Define Dubai Blue Line Expansion
The first segment spans 21 kilometers with 10 stations. It will run from Creek station on the Green Line through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and International City 1, then extend to Silicon Oasis and Academic City.
This section includes an underground interchange at International City 1. The second route will cover 9 kilometers and four stations, connecting Centrepoint on the Red Line to the same interchange via Mirdif and Al Warqa.
RTA also plans to build a new train depot at Al Ruwayah 3, supporting fleet operations and maintenance needs as network traffic increases.
Dubai Blue Line to Feature World’s Tallest Metro Station
Officials revealed the final design for the Emaar Properties station, set to be the tallest metro station globally at 74 meters. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the station will act as a gateway symbolizing Dubai’s future vision.
The station will span 11,000 square meters and support a capacity of up to 160,000 passengers daily. Projections estimate over 70,000 daily users by 2040, reflecting the city’s rapid urban growth.
By 2040, the Dubai Blue Line will serve more than one million residents across nine districts. It will provide direct access to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes.
The metro’s total daily capacity will exceed 850,000 passengers. Forecasts show ridership reaching 200,000 per day by 2030 and 320,000 by 2040.
Upon completion, the Dubai Metro system will grow to 131 kilometers, with 78 stations and a fleet of 168 trains—significantly enhancing connectivity and transit efficiency across the emirate.
