DSV to Acquire DB Schenker in €14.8 Billion Deal
17.09.2024
DB Schenker, a subsidiary of the German railways, will soon come under the control of the Danish transport and logistics group DSV, as reported by the railway news portal Railway Supply.

On September 13, 2024, a sale agreement was signed for the company at a value of €14.8 billion.

As part of the agreement, DSV commits to investing €1 billion in the development of logistics infrastructure in Germany over the next 3–5 years.
This will make DSV one of the largest logistics companies in the world.
DSV, which already employs 74,000 people and operates in 80 countries, will strengthen its position in the global market by adding 72,700 employees and 1,850 offices and facilities of DB Schenker, located in 130 countries, to its portfolio.
The deal is expected to receive regulatory approval in 2025, and its completion will allow the German railways to significantly reduce its debt, which exceeds €30 billion.
The freed-up resources are planned to be directed towards the modernization of the country’s rail network.
The agreement has already been approved by the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn and the German government.
It is important to note that DSV has committed to retaining the jobs of DB Schenker employees for two years after the deal’s completion. This approach will help avoid major social impacts on the company’s workforce.
In the final stage of the sale process, DSV’s main competitor was a consortium led by the Luxembourg-based fund CVC Capital Partners.
However, DSV ultimately secured victory in the bidding, positioning itself as a leader in global logistics services.
