DPB Bratislava Launches Tender for 40 New Trams: Details and Purchase Cost
31.08.2024
The Bratislava public transport operator, DPB, has announced a new tender for the supply of trams, aiming to significantly renew the city’s rolling stock, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The framework agreement includes the purchase of up to 40 modern trams, consisting of 20 single-direction and 20 bi-directional models.

Each tram must accommodate up to 240 passengers and feature a low-floor proportion of at least 85%, ensuring comfortable access for passengers with limited mobility.
The total cost of the purchase is estimated at €150 million excluding VAT.
The tender aims to address the modernization of the city’s transport system, considering its growing needs and environmental requirements. DPB had previously attempted similar procurements, but earlier tenders were canceled due to technical errors.
This time, the operator aims to avoid past shortcomings and attract leading manufacturers to participate in the tender.
In previous years, from 2014 to 2024, Skoda Group supplied 90 ForCity Plus 29T and 30T trams to Bratislava, which also featured high capacity and a significant proportion of low-floor space.
These trams, like the new ones, have improved technical characteristics and meet modern standards of comfort and safety.
The new tender indicates DPB’s intention to continue its strategy of renewing the tram fleet and improving passenger service quality.
Updating the rolling stock will not only enhance transportation links but also increase the overall efficiency of the public transport system in Bratislava.
