Around the world, governments and local governments are investing in public transport to increase people’s mobility and reduce the negative impact of road transport on the environment and make the world greener. Therefore, significant infrastructure investments are currently being made in Central and Eastern Europe – innovative projects that will not only strengthen the region in the EU arena, but also ensure its sustainable and rapid economic growth, as well as significantly increase the security of Europe as a whole. Rail transport, in particular high-speed rail, plays a critical role in transforming existing infrastructure into a sustainable transport network. Railway Supply magazine writes about this, citing Railway Pro.

CEE

The European Commission has placed the development of high-speed rail at the center of EU transport policy. Building on this momentum, the EU countries participating in the Three Seas Initiative are developing their respective HSR networks. Projects such as CPK in Poland, together with Rail Baltica and V4, will make a vital contribution to meeting the objectives of the EU TEN-T policy and the Smart and Sustainable Mobility Strategy.

Reconstruction and modernization of railway lines, including the introduction of the high-speed rail system, is also an important part of Ukraine’s plans for post-war reconstruction. These infrastructure mega projects together can create a dense and interoperable HSR network in the region, filling in the missing cross-border connections in Central and Eastern Europe and creating the future of European mobility. Through CPK, the largest infrastructure project currently underway in Europe, the Baltic countries will be connected to the V4 countries through the Polish high-speed rail network.
