10.06.2024
The German state railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) has completed a five-year reconstruction of the high-speed line between Hanover and Würzburg in Germany, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The total cost of the project amounted to 850 million euros. During this time, 557 kilometers of tracks were renewed, leading to increased reliability of passenger and freight transport.
To coordinate the CASCA+ railway corridor, a consortium is planned to be established
The works included track, sleeper, and switch renewal, as well as upper structure repairs and ground stabilization.
The CEO of DB InfraGO, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn responsible for infrastructure and stations management, expressed satisfaction with the project’s results, emphasizing the importance of investments for the development of Germany’s railway network.
As part of the reconstruction, 700,000 sleepers and 235 switches were replaced or updated, and repairs were carried out on 49 bridges and 63 tunnels.
These works will significantly improve the infrastructure and ensure smoother and safer train movements.
The next step for the company will be the modernization of the Frankfurt-Mannheim line.
DB plans to test a new reconstruction method by closing the entire line for one intensive period of work over five months.
This will reduce reconstruction time and minimize discomfort for passengers and freight transport.
After completing the Hanover-Würzburg line reconstruction, DB InfraGo will focus on implementing a comprehensive infrastructure program costing 16.4 billion euros.
This program includes the renewal of an additional 2000 kilometers of tracks and the repair of 1000 stations, making Germany’s railway network even more modern and efficient.
