Delivery of Tram Cars by CAF: Modernizing Vitoria-Gasteiz’s Transport Network

Delivery of Tram Cars by CAF is part of Euskotren’s initiative to modernize the region’s transport system. The €20 million contract includes three seven-section tram cars for Vitoria-Gasteiz. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This project aims to enhance the infrastructure of Álava’s administrative capital. Delivery of the new tram cars is scheduled for the second half of 2027.

Each tram car will accommodate up to 400 passengers, significantly boosting transport capacity in the city. CAF has previously delivered nine five-section S500 trams measuring 31.4 meters each. Additionally, the city uses seven seven-section S600 trams, each 44.2 meters long. The new models will maintain the same length but include innovative design improvements.

Special consideration has been given to passengers with mobility challenges. Orange seats will be designated for elderly passengers and those with children. Dedicated wheelchair zones will ensure comfort for all users. Folding seats have been omitted to maximize interior space, and features like dynamic route maps and video surveillance will enhance safety and convenience.

The Vitoria-Gasteiz tram network has operated since 2008, offering reliable service to residents. Currently, it includes two narrow-gauge lines spanning a total of 12 kilometers. With 28 stops, the network provides excellent access for passengers. The addition of new tram cars will meet the growing demand for public transport.

In 2023, a 2.6-kilometer extension of the Ibaiondo–Salburua line was completed. This section added five new stops, expanding the city’s transport coverage. Delivery of Tram Cars by CAF will enhance capacity and improve passenger comfort on these routes.
