Why Delhi Metro Is Expanding Its IPL Services?

To accommodate the influx of spectators, Delhi Metro will extend last train timings by up to two hours on all lines, including the Airport Express. The plan covers five match dates: April 13, 16, 27, 29, and May 11.

These changes will primarily assist fans leaving Arun Jaitley Stadium, where surrounding stations like ITO and Delhi Gate typically face high footfall. Extra services will reduce congestion and shorten waiting times.

Seventy-six additional trips will run on each of the five game nights. While evenly spread across all lines, the Violet Line—serving the stadium—is prioritized for operational focus and increased frequency.

Delhi Metro Advisory and Security Measures for Match Days

Metro authorities advise fans to use smart cards or QR tickets to avoid delays. Commuters should arrive early, follow staff directions, and refrain from bringing restricted items like lighters or oversized bags.

Security has been enhanced at major stations. DMRC, alongside Delhi Police and CISF, will deploy more personnel, baggage scanners, and CCTV surveillance to maintain order. Helpdesks at Delhi Gate and ITO will assist throughout match hours.

Interchange hubs such as Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat will support smooth transfers for long-distance passengers. However, the Janakpuri West–Krishna Park Extension will follow its usual schedule due to lower demand.

Delhi Metro continues its tradition of facilitating major public events. From the Commonwealth Games to international cricket fixtures, the system consistently proves its efficiency, punctuality, and commitment to passenger safety.

For fans seeking fast, reliable, and eco-friendly transport, the Metro remains the ideal choice. With fixed fares, shorter travel times, and reduced emissions, it outperforms road transport on every front during Delhi’s biggest cricket nights.
