03.05.2025
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor has entered its final trial stage with Namo Bharat trains now operating between Shatabdi Nagar and Modipuram, including the first run through Meerut’s underground section. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This achievement brings India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System closer to full launch, enhancing regional mobility and cutting commute times across the NCR.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) confirmed that the new segment includes a 5-km underground portion, improving access to Meerut’s city center.
Spanning 82 km and costing approximately $3.6 billion, the corridor connects Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram via 24 stations. Eleven of them, from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut (South), are already operational.

In Delhi, Namo Bharat trains began test runs in April on a 14-km stretch that includes Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, and New Ashok Nagar. Passenger services here are expected to launch by June.
The Ghaziabad section, featuring eight fully functional stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar (North), continues to operate seamlessly.
In Meerut, the 23-km stretch houses 13 stations. Among these, four key hubs — Meerut (South), Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram — will serve six-coach regional trains.

Alongside regional trains, local three-coach metro services will operate on the same tracks, covering all 13 stations including Partapur, Rithani, and Modipuram Depot.
Since February, trial runs have been underway on a 6-km elevated segment between Meerut (South) and Shatabdi Nagar. The final 17-km stretch, including the underground line, is currently under evaluation.
Once fully operational, the system will slash travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just 55 minutes, offering faster, safer, and more efficient connectivity for millions.
