15.08.2025
DDEMU2 is being tested in Hungary, and the project could become a major step for CRRC’s entry into the Central European market with modern, high-capacity trains. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

DDEMU2 — From Development to Testing
The DDEMU2 double-deck electric train is undergoing trials in Hungary, organized by Rail-Tours, a subsidiary of MAV. Earlier, the train successfully completed tests at the VUZ test ring in Velim, Czech Republic.

The model was developed for Austrian operator Westbahn, which signed a contract with CRRC in 2019 to lease four units. Initially, certification was planned for completion in 2023, but the timeline has been pushed to next year.
DDEMU2 is designed for operation in Austria, Germany, Slovakia, and Hungary. This will connect major transport hubs in the region and make journeys faster and more convenient for passengers.
Technical Capabilities and Prospects of DDEMU2
The train consists of six cars and can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. It can accommodate 1,280 passengers, including 571 seats. The manufacturer emphasizes full compliance with European TSI standards.
Plans for DDEMU2 deliveries to Hungary have not yet been confirmed. However, CRRC has signed an agreement with Hungarian company Acemil to establish rolling stock production in the country, which could lower costs and accelerate market entry.
Experts believe successful certification will strengthen CRRC’s position in the region. Passengers will benefit from modern transport, and increased competition in the rail sector is expected to improve service quality and travel conditions.
