DB Accelerates Train Control Digitalization

DB is implementing a long-term contract format focused on supply volumes rather than specific locations. Contractors will integrate technologies covering 15,500 devices by 2028, with some projects extending to 2032.

The company believes this approach will significantly shorten implementation times, which previously stretched up to eight years. After signing the agreement, contractors must develop technological platforms with standardized interfaces.

The industry is committed to providing all necessary resources to complete the work on schedule. The first projects will begin in spring 2025, speeding up railway infrastructure modernization.

Contractors and Budget Allocation

The contract executors include Alstom, Hitachi Rail GTS Deutschland, MerMec Deutschland, and a consortium of Siemens Mobility with Leonhard Weiss. DB has not disclosed official details on fund distribution among them.

Siemens Mobility announced that its consortium secured a €2.8 billion contract, representing 44% of the total budget. Alstom reported receiving over €600 million, with 1,890 devices falling under its supply area.
