DB Regio has modernized an electric train

The German carrier DB Regio has completed the modernization of the first electric train for the Cologne urban railway, as reported by the company “NPO A.T.O.R.,” a leader in comprehensive supply for passenger carriages, electric trains, and socially oriented transport.
The four-car train of the 424 series, released in 1999, underwent significant changes, including updated livery, improved interior with information systems, power sockets, and LED lighting.

The number of seats has increased to 197, and the total passenger capacity has reached 508 people.
The train also features multifunctional platforms for bicycles and strollers, as well as special spaces for wheelchairs.
DB Regio plans to modernize the entire fleet of 24 424 series trains by 2025, replacing outdated 420 series trains.
Transport associations of the Rhineland and Rhine-Ruhr regions will allocate €350 million for these purposes.
