14.06.2025
A Dartmoor Line landslip has shut down all train services between Crediton and Okehampton, halting travel and forcing passengers to seek alternate routes during ongoing disruptions. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The incident occurred at around 1:40 a.m. and immediately suspended Great Western Railway services operating between Exeter St Davids and Okehampton. No injuries were reported.

Network Rail engineers were unable to reach the damaged site due to dangerous weather conditions. The instability of the terrain and continued rain increased the risk of further collapse.
To support affected passengers, rail replacement buses were introduced. Additionally, travelers may use their train tickets on Stagecoach routes 5A and 6A, covering the route from Exeter to Okehampton.
Despite the disruption on the Dartmoor Line, services on the Tarka Line between Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple still stop at Crediton, offering a limited alternative for some commuters.
Dartmoor Line landslip delays GWR operations
Officials expect the Dartmoor Line landslip will delay operations until at least 1:00 p.m., though that timeline could extend depending on weather conditions and repair efforts.
GWR and National Rail urged passengers to check service updates before traveling. They also advised allowing additional time due to likely congestion and slower journeys.
Rail network in Devon faces growing weather threats
This incident highlights the vulnerability of rural rail lines to extreme weather. As storms become more frequent, rail operators must prepare for more disruptions across Devon and beyond.
Local authorities plan to assess the area for long-term safety improvements. Preventive measures and terrain monitoring will likely be considered to avoid future landslips.
