From February 8, rail closures will impact services on six consecutive weekends. Passengers are advised to check schedules and plan journeys carefully to avoid disruptions. This temporary inconvenience ensures the project’s smooth execution.

Enhancing Accessibility and Infrastructure at Darlington Station

On February 22-23, engineers will install a step-free footbridge over the station’s new platforms. This key milestone will enhance accessibility, providing a modern experience for passengers while respecting the station’s historic roots.

Additional tasks include rail, sleeper, and ballast renewals at Chester-le-Street. Crews will also strengthen ballast at Tursdale Junction, improving efficiency and restoring line speed after earlier upgrades.

A semi-automatic track warning system will be added between Ferryhill South and Tursdale Junctions. This system will enhance safety for workers on the tracks, highlighting the project’s commitment to safety and progress.

The £140m investment underscores Darlington station’s role in the North East’s transport network. Upon completion, passengers will enjoy better local and national connections, fostering regional growth and connectivity.
