The inauguration of the refurbished railway connection in South Moravia (Czech Republic), one of the largest EU investments in the Czech Republic, has taken place, according to the Railway Supply portal, citing railwaypro.
As part of the project, 37 new electric trains were procured with EU funding, which will help alleviate peak-hour congestion on the busy railway section in South Moravia, serving approximately 22 million passengers annually.

According to a press release from the European Commission, the project was approved in December 2019 and received €223 million in funding under the Cohesion Policy for the programming period 2014-2020 from the overall budget of €265 million.
The consolidated railway system provides new and modern rolling stock serving two of the busiest regional railway lines around the regional capital of Brno.
For the programming period 2021-2027, the Czech Republic has been allocated €21 billion from Cohesion Policy funds to implement common EU priorities, such as balanced territorial development, a fair climate, and the transition to digital technologies, supported by an innovative and inclusive social market.
