The project, supported by a subsidy from the Czech Telecommunications Office, costs €5.2 million ($5.7 million) excluding VAT. The upgrades aim to deliver seamless voice and data access during journeys.
Jan Hobza, Chairman of ČD – Telematika, confirmed the repeaters will significantly boost signal quality. He emphasized that installations will comply with technical regulations and avoid interference with external systems.
The 5G rollout includes Pendolino, InterPanter, and six railjet trains, with suppliers managing documentation required for approval. Czech Railways expects to expand the technology to 200 railcars later.
Czech Railways Focuses on Passenger Comfort and Safety
Czech Railways prioritizes passenger satisfaction and operational efficiency by modernizing its fleet with 5G technology. Railjet trains will receive upgrades first, ensuring seamless connectivity across routes.
Kontron Transportation CEO Petr Vítek highlighted the European origins of the technology. He noted its use in Germany, Austria, and Poland, demonstrating reliability across regional networks.
Repeaters installed in trains amplify signals, eliminating disruptions caused by train car materials. This ensures passengers enjoy uninterrupted service for both data and voice communication during travel.
Czech Railways continues investing in sustainable and modern solutions to enhance rail travel. These upgrades support eco-friendly transportation while meeting growing digital demands.
The project underscores Czech Railways’ commitment to innovation and competitiveness, combining cutting-edge technology with sustainable transportation practices.
