Czech Railways Tests Starlink Internet for Enhanced Train Connectivity
18.01.2025
Czech Railways is testing Starlink satellite internet on its trains to improve passenger connectivity. This innovation aims to enhance travel experiences on routes like Brno to Olomouc and Prague. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Czech Railways Introduces Starlink to Enhance Internet Access on Trains
Czech Railways is among the first European rail operators to test Starlink, developed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The initial tests will focus on InterPanter trains, providing passengers with faster, more reliable internet.

This effort is part of the company’s broader plan to modernize train connectivity. Starlink’s low-orbit satellite technology offers reduced latency and fewer disruptions, particularly on long-distance routes.
Czech Railways Expands Connectivity with Innovative Satellite Technology
The Starlink trial includes special antennas adapted for trains, arriving soon from the United States. CEO Michal Krapinec confirmed that SpaceX has loaned the equipment free of charge, with only minimal costs for train modifications.
Passengers commuting or working while traveling can expect better internet performance. Alongside Starlink, Czech Railways is upgrading routers and signal boosters to further improve in-train Wi-Fi.
Demand for Internet Access Fuels Czech Railways’ Connectivity Goals
Czech Railways added nearly 800 Wi-Fi connections in 2024, now covering 90% of its long-distance fleet. Future plans include expanding 5G network integration, particularly on high-speed trains like Pendolino and Railjet.
By combining Starlink technology and upgraded systems, Czech Railways leads European railways in modernizing passenger internet experiences. The company remains committed to meeting growing connectivity demands.
