Cundinamarca’s Strategy to Overcome Budget Delays

Colombia’s finance ministry recently reallocated $2.9B from the 2025 budget to 2026. Although this shift affects multiple projects, local authorities remain determined to keep construction on schedule.

The national government contributes 70% of funding, while Cundinamarca covers the rest. Governor Jorge Rey confirmed that financial flexibility will keep the project moving for 18 months.

Rey stated that available funds from 2023 and 2024 will sustain initial work phases. Expected government transfers should ensure continued development through early 2026.

However, once those 18 months end, securing additional funds will be critical for progress. Officials anticipate the 2025 budget transfer arriving in late 2026, creating a financial gap.

Progress Updates on Cundinamarca’s Regiotram de Occidente

Authorities report that construction of workshop yards and land management efforts has reached 28%. Work on the central corridor is set to begin in March, keeping the timeline intact.

Regiotram de Occidente will run entirely on electric power, linking Bogotá to key municipalities. The system will serve Facatativá, Madrid, Mosquera, and Funza, integrating with Bogotá’s metro Line No. 1.

Meanwhile, Regiotram del Norte remains in early development, as technical assessments continue. Officials are working to finalize key elements before seeking transport ministry approval.
