CRRC Delivers First Freight Locomotive to Uzbekistan’s Rail Network

CRRC has delivered its first O’Z12T freight locomotive to Uzbekistan, marking a key step in modernizing the country’s rail infrastructure and strengthening its transportation network. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The two-section locomotive, built at the Zhuzhou plant, was presented at Navoi station. CRRC plans to supply seven more units by year-end, including two new diesel locomotives and two upgraded electric models.

The O’Z12T offers 7.2 MW of power and reaches speeds up to 120 km/h. It can haul freight trains weighing 7,000 tons, supported by a 16-cylinder engine consuming about 200 g/kWh for efficient operations.

Additionally, the locomotive features automatic, pneumatic, and electric braking systems, which improve safety and reliability during demanding cargo transport operations across Uzbekistan’s growing network.
CRRC Expands Presence in Uzbekistan
CRRC has been active in Uzbekistan since 2003, supplying 27 O’zbekiston and O’Z-Y electric locomotives to the national operator, Uzbekistan Temir Yullari. Its Dalian subsidiary also delivered 42 O’ZEL and O’ZELR locomotives.
This long-standing partnership demonstrates CRRC’s commitment to developing advanced solutions for Uzbekistan, enabling greater connectivity and economic growth across Central Asia.
CRRC Contract for Future Modernization
The company is executing a major contract to supply 38 locomotives by 2033, including freight, passenger, and shunting models. The agreement also covers the modernization of 12 freight-passenger electric locomotives.
The arrival of O’Z12T signals the next phase of rail development, as Uzbekistan strengthens its role as a regional freight hub through modern rolling stock and innovative transport technologies.
