While combating violent crime remains essential, SEPTA prioritized quality-of-ride enforcement. Fare evasion penalties surged by 74%, with 4,366 citations issued in the first half of 2025. Officers also wrote 1,189 tickets for smoking and 253 for marijuana use.

Crime Prevention Measures Expand Across Stations

Customer reports via the SEPTA Transit Watch App dropped significantly. Fare evasion reports fell by 47%, and smoking complaints declined by 13.6%, signaling improved rider compliance and a safer environment.

Looking ahead, SEPTA plans to expand deterrence through visible patrols and new technology. Full-length fare gates will soon roll out to nine more stations, boosting security and improving passenger confidence.

The agency remains committed to reducing crime and enhancing the travel experience through enforcement, innovation, and customer-focused strategies.
