The modernization program includes purchasing approximately 1,200 passenger cars by 2029. Authorities expect this to expand the fleet to 3,000 units and reduce wear and tear from 44% to 38%.

Last year, 118 new passenger cars were purchased, with 143 more added this year. In 2024, authorities plan to acquire an additional 226 cars, accelerating the modernization process.

Creating a Leasing Company as a Key Modernization Tool

Kazakhstan’s locomotive fleet consists of 1,807 units, with a wear rate of 61%. In 2023, 185 locomotives were acquired, and 187 more are planned for 2024. Over the next three years, 257 new locomotives are expected to arrive.

These measures aim to eliminate locomotive shortages and enhance transport accessibility. Modernization efforts will improve both passenger and freight transport, boosting economic opportunities.

Kazakhstan’s Vision for Creating a Leasing Company

The freight fleet includes 139,000 units, with plans to purchase around 3,000 gondola cars by 2026. This year, 800 gondola cars have already been deployed, reflecting consistent implementation of modernization plans.

The adopted measures will significantly lower fleet wear and increase reliability. Authorities emphasize that infrastructure upgrades will attract investment and enhance Kazakhstan’s global competitiveness.

Kazakhstan continues to implement ambitious plans for its transportation system. By creating a leasing company, the country strengthens its position in international transport markets.
