The EMD GT38AC locomotives, intended for operation in South Sumatra province, have already proven their efficiency on Indonesian railways.
A previous contract for the supply of 36 such locomotives, signed in 2020, confirmed their reliability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental efficiency.
The EMD GT38AC locomotives have been specially designed considering the operational characteristics of Southeast Asian and South African countries.
Their power units can operate on biofuel blends up to 35%, meeting modern environmental requirements.
Furthermore, the design of the locomotive’s body and engineer’s cabin provides improved visibility, enhancing operational safety.
The delivery of 54 new locomotives, scheduled for 2025, will help PT KAI strengthen its infrastructure and ensure more efficient cargo transportation in the region.
For Progress Rail, this contract will be another successful step towards strengthening its position in the global railroad equipment market.
