On the site of the former Radom Heat and Power Plant in Poland, the construction of an intermodal terminal is planned, which will enable the transfer of goods from rail to road transport, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.

Construction of an intermodal terminal

The project entails the construction of an intermodal terminal with associated facilities, aimed at providing services for both rail and road transport with simultaneous transshipment of significant volumes.

A new railway route to Warsaw is now open!

The investments also contribute to increasing the share of rail transport on long routes and reducing the burden on fast road systems.

The project is planned to include, among other things: the construction of the terminal platform (loading area), the construction of an internal communication and road system, including access to the terminal gates, expanding the existing railway tracks by 5 tracks, and modernizing the existing 3 tracks, expanding the existing repair shop (for wagons, locomotives/service equipment, and machines).

The railway will be expanded with 5 tracks of 1435 mm gauge, connected by standard switch turnouts.

The total area of the site is approximately 14.5 hectares. The terminal will operate around the clock.

The terminal will provide the following services:

  • Transshipment of containers from rail transport to the terminal station (until they are picked up by another train or truck) or directly to road transport.
  • Road transport of selected containers to their destinations.
  • Repair and maintenance of locomotives, wagons, containers, terminal equipment, and machinery.
