China will not help Russians bypass sanctions
07.04.2022
China does not intend to take any special steps to circumvent sanctions against the aggressor country Russia.
“We will not do anything on purpose to circumvent US and Western sanctions against Russia,” Wang Lutong, director of the European Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told reporters at a briefing on the April 1 China-EU summit.
At the same time, Wang Lutong indicated that China would continue to trade with Russia. The diplomat recalled that China is not a party to the conflict and is in favor of resolving all conflicts through negotiations and consultations.
At the same time, he said that China’s ability to influence Russia should not be overestimated and “one should not assume that if Beijing asks Moscow to cease hostilities, it will listen to.”
Prior to this, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said during the China-EU summit: “We expect China, as a member of the UN Security Council, to take responsibility to end the war and make sure that Russia returns to peace talks to find a solution.” .
At a press conference following the summit, she said that European participants warned the Chinese that any support for Russia in the Ukrainian conflict “causes serious damage to China’s reputation” in Europe.
China may be one of the countries through which it is possible to transport sanctioned Russian cargo.
In addition, the PRC within the Russian Federation was considered as a country capable of replacing high-tech European components for local industry, in particular for the production of a new “Russian” electric locomotive, reports Railway Supply magazine with reference to Rail.insider.
Sanctions against the Russian Federation are designed to reduce the military-industrial potential of the country that treacherously invaded the territory of Ukraine and has been waging a large-scale war of conquest since February 24, 2022.
Earlier, representatives of Kazakhstan and Georgia announced compliance with US and EU sanctions against the Russian Federation.
