Camlin Rail Enhances Train Monitoring with Caltrain Partnership. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Camlin Rail has announced a strategic partnership with Caltrain, a major Californian commuter rail system serving over seven million passengers annually. This collaboration introduces advanced monitoring technology to improve rail efficiency and reliability.
Camlin Rail Introduces Next-Generation Monitoring Technology
Stadler Rail, a trusted train manufacturer for over 80 years, now joins forces with Camlin Rail to advance train monitoring technology and optimize rail performance. This partnership aims to implement the PanVue fully automated pantograph system for Caltrain’s new EMU rolling stock fleet.

Camlin Rail leads the digital rail transformation, offering best-in-class monitoring solutions that integrate innovative machine vision technology. The PanVue system, a breakthrough in rail technology, uses stereo vision-based machine learning to continuously assess pantographs’ condition, ensuring optimal fleet performance.
How Camlin Rail Improves Rail Efficiency and Safety?
Paul Fleming, Managing Director of Camlin Rail, expressed enthusiasm about integrating pantograph and roof monitoring into a comprehensive package. He highlighted PanVue’s contribution to assessing Caltrain’s fleet while RoofVue technology enhances safety through remote inspections of train rooftops.
“This partnership with Stadler and Caltrain will allow PanVue to enhance asset management strategies,” Fleming stated. Michelle Bouchard, Caltrain’s Executive Director, emphasized that this technology ensures punctual service while minimizing operational delays.
PanVue employs advanced stereoscopic cameras to capture high-resolution images, creating a precise 3D model of pantograph conditions in real-time. Trains traveling at speeds of up to 186 mph benefit from immediate assessments of critical parameters such as contact strip wear, horn defects, and structural integrity.
By replacing manual inspections, this system significantly reduces maintenance costs while transitioning operators from time-based to condition-based strategies. The risk of costly overhead line failures diminishes, improving operational efficiency and minimizing service disruptions for commuters.
Several leading railway networks worldwide, including Heathrow Express, Network Rail, Nederlandse Spoorwegen, MTR, RFI, Infrabel, SEPTA, and Amtrak, have already adopted this pioneering technology. The global demand for intelligent rail monitoring solutions continues to grow rapidly.
Fleming reaffirmed Camlin Rail’s commitment to advancing rail technology, stating that the PanVue system significantly enhances safety, reliability, and efficiency in commuter services. This partnership marks a pivotal step in the ongoing digital transformation of railway infrastructure.
