California High-Speed Rail Procurement Advances Toward 2026 Track Work
29.08.2025
California High-Speed Rail procurement is ramping up, with agreements reached for track and systems and plans announced to buy materials and trains for America’s first electrified high-speed rail line. This is a critical step to give California a competitive advantage to accelerate building and strengthen local manufacturing.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) said on Thursday that it would solicit offers for rail, ties, ballast, fibre optic cable and poles for the overhead contact system. Thus, $507 million in contracts will be paid for by the State of California.

“We are grateful that Pushbullet, in recognition of our hard-earned reputation, has agreed to take this issue seriously,” CEO Ian Choudri says.
“Acquiring the track and supplies we need to launch the country’s first-ever high-speed track and systems installation later next year is a significant milestone. This purchase will allow us to both move forward with construction more quickly and save the state millions.”
Contracts and logistics for California’s High-Speed Rail
The materials will be stored at a 150-acre rail yard it set up in Kern County at the southern end of the zone where it has been building through the Central Valley. Deliveries, meanwhile, will be relayed to construction sites around the 119-mile initial operating segment.
There will be competition to offer on six contracts for procurements. Notices to proceed will be issued incrementally, and the Madera–Poplar Avenue segment, which is fully state-funded, gained launching authority first.
Historical Progress Along the California High Speed Rail Network
Work is underway on the Central Valley segment, with 171 miles currently under active design and construction between Merced and Bakersfield. Almost 70 miles of guideway have been built already, along with 57 completed structures, and another 29 in progress.
Around the state, 463 of the planned 494 miles between San Francisco and Los Angeles/Anaheim have been cleared environmentally. Plus, more than 15,800 jobs have been created in the region since the project started, nearly all of them filled by workers who already live there.

Is there an update on the California High-Speed Rail?
The California High-Speed Rail Authority has initiated the procurement process for $507 million in track and systems materials, and installation is set to start in 2026 in the Central Valley corridor.
How will this tendering around local communities?
The project supports local industries and creates thousands of jobs by buying from American manufacturers. This will also make the vehicle compliant with the federal “Buy America” requirements and benefit the interests of the California economy.
How far along is construction?
Construction has moved forward well, with almost 70 miles of guideway built and hundreds of miles cleared for environmental purposes. This progress ensures we are on the path to building a modern, cutting-edge high-speed rail system.
