27.07.2025
CAF has delivered the first Urbos 100X tram to Marseille, marking a key milestone in the city’s transit expansion and preparing for service on the extended T3 line. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The seven-section, low-floor tram features an aluminum alloy body, measuring 42.5 meters in length and 2.6 meters in width. It accommodates 262 passengers, including 62 seated, and offers six double-leaf doors and two single-leaf doors on each side.

CAF signed a €57 million ($62.3 million) contract in 2022 for 15 trams, priced at about €3.8 million ($4.15 million) each. The deal includes options for future orders to support Marseille’s tram network growth.

The entire fleet is scheduled to operate on line T3 and its extension by early next year. This initiative reflects Marseille’s strategy to enhance public transport and reduce environmental impact with high-capacity, efficient trams.
CAF Expands Presence in French Market
Production takes place at CAF’s facility in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, where the company plans to assemble four units per month. The same site is also producing Urbos 100X trams for Montpellier, showing CAF’s commitment to the French rail sector.
The Urbos platform’s modular design and energy efficiency make it a preferred choice for operators seeking performance and sustainability. Its advanced features improve passenger experience and support green urban mobility goals.
CAF Strengthens Role in Urban Mobility
With demand for modern, sustainable transit rising, CAF continues to deliver innovative solutions for European cities. By adding longer trams with greater capacity, Marseille expects to improve network efficiency and passenger comfort.
These developments underline the importance of strategic investments in tram infrastructure. As the new fleet enters service, residents will benefit from better connectivity, reduced congestion, and an eco-friendly alternative for daily commuting.
