Bursa Emek-City Hospital Metro Line has finalized a tender for 20 new wagons, but experts warn this number is insufficient. They urge officials to issue another tender to accommodate future passenger growth.

Experts Criticize Bursa Emek-City Hospital Metro Line Wagon Count

The metro line aims to expand Bursa’s public transport system and improve urban mobility. However, specialists emphasize that at least 64 wagons are necessary for the project to function effectively.

Former BURULAŞ General Manager Levent Fidansoy highlighted concerns on social media, noting that the tender only covers 20 wagons. He stated that the city’s growing transportation needs require a larger fleet.

Wagon Procurement Costs Raise Pricing Questions

Fidansoy compared past metro wagon purchases to illustrate pricing discrepancies. In 2010, Frankfurt sold Bombardier wagons for €1.74M per unit, while Bursa paid €3.16M per wagon.

Additionally, Bursa acquired Durmazlar wagons for €1.7M each, a lower price than previous contracts. Fidansoy urged officials to secure 44 additional wagons at competitive market rates to prevent overspending.

New Wagons Will Match Existing Models for Seamless Integration

Officials confirmed that the new metro wagons will have the same technical features as current models. This ensures smooth integration while maintaining consistency in metro operations.

However, concerns persist over whether the 20-wagon purchase will accommodate the rising passenger volume. Bursa’s population growth necessitates a strategic expansion plan to prevent future congestion.

Bursa’s Transportation Future Requires More Metro Wagons

As Bursa’s public transport demand rises, experts recommend 58-meter wagons for better efficiency. These longer wagons could optimize capacity and reduce the need for frequent expansions.

A new tender process must secure 44 more wagons to meet growing needs. Without additional investments, officials risk delays, overcrowding, and long-term inefficiencies in Bursa’s metro network.
