08.07.2024
Buenos Aires Subways SE (SBASE) in Argentina has announced a significant expansion of its international public tender for the acquisition of 96 new cars for Line B, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This decision will allow the replacement of the old Mitsubishi car fleet, which has an average age of 60 years.
The EU has imposed sanctions on Russia’s largest railway container operator
The new order aims to improve service quality and conditions for passengers who use this line daily.
Line B of the Buenos Aires subway plays a key role in the city’s transportation system, carrying about 214,000 passengers daily.
It connects the Leandro N. Alem and Juan Manuel de Rosas areas, providing essential transportation for city residents.
Given the age and technical condition of the current cars, modernization is a necessary step to enhance passenger safety and comfort.
The new cars will be made of modern materials such as stainless steel or aluminum, ensuring durability and wear resistance.
They will be equipped with modern air conditioning systems, which will be a significant improvement over current conditions.
Additionally, surveillance cameras, an integrated user information system, and anti-vandal LED lighting will increase safety and convenience.
An important feature of the new cars will be their compatibility with the communication-based train control system (CBTC) with Grade of Automation 2 (GOA 2).
This innovation is already used on the city’s Line H and is planned for implementation on Line D.
Compatibility with this system will significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of train operations, as well as enhance their safety.
The technical characteristics of the new cars include a track gauge width of 3.10 meters, a minimum length of 17 meters, and four doors on each side.
The driver’s cab will also have doors for exiting on both sides and one door for connection to the passenger car, ensuring convenience for operators and enhancing overall functionality.
According to the tender conditions, the bid opening is scheduled for September 24, 2024.
The first train should be delivered 20 months after signing the contract with the tender winner.
This means that the new cars could start operating in the coming years, significantly improving travel conditions for residents and visitors of Buenos Aires.
Thus, the expansion of the tender for the purchase of new cars for Line B of the Buenos Aires subway represents an important step towards modernization and improvement of the city’s transport infrastructure.
This will ensure more comfortable and safe conditions for passengers, increase the efficiency of the subway, and meet modern quality standards.
