Insurgents detonated a mine under Bridge No. 65, a 60-foot-long structure between Hninpale and Taungzun stations. The blast halted trains and caused structural damage.

Repair crews from Myanma Railways worked nonstop for several days. They cleared debris, reinforced supports, and restored the affected rail section under tight deadlines.

The Bago-Mawlamyine railway line reopened at 12:30 a.m. on May 10 following a successful test run with the RGC. Services resumed with train No. 81 departing Yangon at 7 a.m. and No. 82 leaving Mawlamyine at 8 a.m.

The reopening reconnects key cities in southern Myanmar and restores vital transportation links. Authorities emphasized the importance of maintaining public travel during regional unrest.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications confirmed that Myanma Railways will continue operating all major rail routes. These include Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Pyay, and Yangon-Mawlamyine, along with Yangon’s Circular and Suburban networks.

Nationwide railway routes remain active despite unrest

Additional regional routes remain operational, such as Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin, Pyinmana-Taungdwingyi, and Myitkyina-Moekaung. The Yangon-Pyay-Bagan and Letpadan-Tharawaw routes are also in service.

Myanmar’s railway network continues to play a vital role in domestic travel. Despite isolated attacks, transportation infrastructure is being protected and quickly restored when necessary.

By prioritizing stability and access, the government aims to ensure uninterrupted mobility and safe travel for the population.
