BNSF Rail Bridge Project to Ease Congestion in Moore

The $30 million initiative replaces the busy at-grade crossing at State Highway 37 and Southeast 4th Street with a grade-separated underpass and new BNSF rail bridge. Officials expect the upgrade to reduce risks and ease traffic delays.

By lowering the highway and building a rail bridge above it, the project eliminates delays caused by about 36 trains that cross the area each day. The result will be safer roads and smoother travel.

In addition to improved vehicle flow, the plan includes a pedestrian and bike bridge. This ensures safer movement for cyclists and walkers while supporting sustainable, multi-modal transportation in the region.

BNSF Partnership Drives Local and Federal Investment

The BNSF project is a cooperative effort between the city of Moore, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, and BNSF Railway. It is partially funded by a federal RAISE grant and discretionary congressional support.

Moore Mayor Mark Hamm noted the benefits extend beyond commuters. Emergency responders and visitors will also gain from reduced blockages and improved traffic reliability across this vital corridor.

Construction was awarded to Allen Contracting in November 2024. Work will progress in stages to minimize disruptions and maintain safety for residents and travelers during the build.

Completion is scheduled for summer 2026. Upon finalization, the new infrastructure will provide lasting value by addressing long-term transportation challenges and enhancing safety for all road users.

By aligning city, state, and federal efforts, the BNSF project marks a step forward in infrastructure renewal, community planning, and efficient urban mobility.
