The completion of the bridge came 24 hours ahead of expectations, as reported by KOLR/KOZL-TV. BNSF confirmed that the subdivision, linking Thayer, Mo., and Memphis, Tenn., reopened at 7:05 a.m. CT on Thursday.
The shutdown followed an incident on April 5, when a washed-out bridge caused a coal train to derail, sending cars into the river. Additionally, high winds caused a second train to derail 120 miles away.
On April 6, BNSF restored the Thayer North Subdivision, which connects Thayer to West Plains, Mo. The River Subdivision, between Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and River Junction, Ark., was expected to reopen by midnight on Thursday.
BNSF’s quick response to the disruption demonstrates its commitment to minimizing delays for freight and passenger operations. The company continues to monitor rail infrastructure and weather conditions to prevent further incidents.
