The double-line circular rail system will connect Nidavanda, Devanahalli, Heelalige, Solur, and other surrounding areas. It will serve growing suburban populations and reduce congestion in the city core.

Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna confirmed that the central government will fully fund the project. A final location survey (FLS) is already in progress and is being conducted in phases.

The detailed project report (DPR) will finalize the total land requirement and budget. Officials estimate the need for approximately 2,500 acres to complete the infrastructure.

“This is a long-term vision spanning 50 years,” Somanna said during a recent meeting with MPs from Bengaluru and nearby districts. The project’s scope reflects the city’s long-range transportation goals.

Bengaluru Circular Rail Project to Improve Suburban Access

Bangalore Central MP P.C. Mohan requested South Western Railway to collaborate with BBMP and expedite stalled works in Carmelaram and Panathur.

Only 35% of the Carmelaram overpass is finished, causing heavy traffic disruptions. The Panathur underpass also remains incomplete due to delays in land acquisition and drainage approvals.

Calls to Expand Bengaluru Circular Rail Project Potential

Mohan also pushed for a superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai. He noted the current Udyan Express takes over 20 hours and fails to meet modern travel expectations.

In addition, he urged the Railway Board to restart redevelopment of KSR Bengaluru City Station. He proposed a feasibility study for a rapid rail transit system linking Bengaluru with Tumakuru, Mysuru, Kolar, and other corridors.
