15.07.2025
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, inviting him to inaugurate the newly completed Bairabi-Sairang railway project and the modern Sairang Railway Station during his upcoming visit. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The Prime Minister welcomed the idea, stating that his participation depends on his schedule. Both leaders discussed several development priorities, including the Thenzawl Peace City Project and a request to upgrade the Aizawl–Thenzawl road to a National Highway.

They also reviewed the Handholding Policy and addressed the security situation in Myanmar’s Chin Hills. Lalduhoma highlighted the urgent need to expand piped gas connections in Aizawl, noting the ongoing $1.1 billion Gas Pipeline Project by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited.

Bairabi-Sairang railway project set to transform Mizoram
The Chief Minister urged timely execution to reduce LPG dependence. Modi assured full support and instructed local authorities to facilitate pipeline work quickly. Officials say the Bairabi-Sairang railway project will become a game changer for connectivity.
This 51.38 km line will make Aizawl the fourth northeastern capital linked to India’s rail network. The Commissioner of Railway Safety recently approved freight and passenger services after inspecting the route earlier in June.
Engineering marvel of the Bairabi-Sairang railway project
Built through rugged mountains, the line includes 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 87 minor bridges, plus five overbridges and six underpasses. Tunnels stretch 12.8 km, while Bridge No. 196 rises 104 meters—42 meters taller than Qutub Minar.
Experts call it an engineering milestone of Indian Railways. This achievement will enhance passenger and cargo movement, boost trade, and drive socio-economic growth, fulfilling a long-standing dream for the people of Mizoram.
