Avanti West Coast Staff Inspire Inclusive Artwork

The initiative aligns with Avanti West Coast’s upcoming Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategy. The plan will focus on workplace engagement and fairness, as well as on partnerships with local communities and suppliers.

The company aims to earn Investors in Diversity accreditation through this program. Carberry, the artist, described the project as emotionally significant and designed to encourage public reflection and connection.

Avanti West Coast Embraces Community Representation

To mark the launch, Avanti West Coast will host a public competition to name the train. This approach strengthens community involvement and raises awareness about inclusion in the rail industry.

Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy welcomed the project, noting that embracing diversity is vital for progress and innovation across the sector.

RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey praised the union’s role in bringing the initiative to life, highlighting employee contributions to West Coast Main Line operations.

Hitachi assembled the Class 807 in Newton Aycliffe. The 807010 is the final unit in a 23-train series that includes 13 Class 805 bi-modes and nine Class 807 electric trains.
