Avanti West Coast Train Services Face Significant Disruptions

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) announced its members would strike, forcing major alterations. Engineering work between Rugby and Stafford will also disrupt service, prolonging journeys considerably.

Avanti West Coast train officials urged passengers to reconsider travel plans because of reduced schedules and longer commutes. Only one train per hour will run between London Euston and both Birmingham and Manchester.

Limited services will operate every two hours for travelers heading to Glasgow and Liverpool stations. Meanwhile, no Avanti trains will be available for those traveling to Blackpool, Edinburgh, or North Wales.

Sunday services will begin after 8 a.m., and the final departures from Euston occur by 5 p.m. Travelers should expect replacement buses running between Coventry and Nuneaton due to planned railway work.

How Avanti West Coast Train Passengers Can Prepare for Delays?

The combination of strikes, limited hours, and major football matches will likely result in packed trains. Avanti officials advised travelers to plan ahead, anticipate extended journey times, and check timetables carefully.

Kathryn O’Brien, Avanti’s customer experience director, expressed disappointment over the strike’s timing and impact. She noted that people visiting family, commuting, or attending events would face considerable inconvenience.

She acknowledged customer frustrations, thanking them for their patience as the company navigates ongoing disputes. Additionally, she advised those with Sunday tickets to consider alternative travel dates or claim refunds.

Avanti remains open to further negotiations with RMT, seeking a long-term resolution for all parties. Meanwhile, the union confirmed ongoing discussions with Avanti West Coast management to resolve their dispute.

An RMT spokesperson highlighted previous meetings, calling them productive and constructive despite continuing disagreements. Further Sunday strikes are expected in the coming months unless both sides reach an agreement.
